Overview
Dimension boxes let you interlock line items in your estimate to your Takeoff tab. You can also use a line item's dimension box to interlock with other line item dimension boxes, so entering one dimension can filter into many line items at once.
Before You Begin
- Know which line item you want to link a dimension to, and which dimension (count, length, area, volume, or weight) you want it linked from.
Option 1: Quick Link (Quantity)
- In your estimate, click on the quantity of the line item.
- Link the quantity to a dimension.
Option 2: Full Dimension Box (More Flexibility)
- Click on the cube icon on the line item.
- Click on quantity.
- Choose one of the predetermined link dimensions shown, or click See All Dimensions to search by count, length, area, volume, or weight.
- Alternatively, use the search bar to find the link dimension you'd like to use for your line item.
Once linked, the dimension value will drive the quantity for that line item, and any other line items linked to the same dimension will update together.
Tips & Best Practices
- Use the Cube Icon Route for Flexibility: The longer route through the cube icon gives you more room to browse and search for the exact dimension you need, compared to linking directly from quantity.
- Link Once, Update Many: Since one dimension can feed multiple line items, update the dimension in one place to keep all linked line items in sync.
Why This Matters
- Interlocks your line items with the Takeoff tab and with each other, so a single dimension update can flow into multiple line items instead of updating each one manually.
Summary
Dimension boxes link a line item's quantity to a dimension, either quickly through the quantity field or with more flexibility through the cube icon, where you can search all available dimensions by count, length, area, volume, or weight.
