Overview
You can set a line item's quantity from a linked dimension, such as interior wall area, and then add your own calculation to it in the quantity formula. This lets the item's quantity follow your takeoff dimensions instead of being entered by hand.
Open the Line Item
- In the left-hand menu, click Jobs.
- Click Job list and select the estimate. You can also click Pipeline and select it from there.
- On the Estimate page, find the line item (for example, Drywall) and click the cube icon next to its name. The item's details window opens.
Link a Dimension and Add a Calculation
- Click Quantity to expand it.
- Under Takeoff dimensions, in Linked dimensions, click the dimension you want to link the quantity to (for example, Interior wall area for a drywall item). To see more options, click See all dimensions....
- Fill in the required dimensions that appear (for example, Interior wall perimeter and Ceiling height).
- In Quantity formula, the linked dimension is added to the formula. Add the calculation you need, using the operators on the left of the formula box, the dimension buttons, and functions such as round(), ceil(), min() and max() below it.
Why This Matters
- Your line item's quantity is calculated from a linked dimension rather than typed in manually.
- You can combine a linked dimension with a calculation of your choice to get the quantity you need.
Summary
To create a custom calculation for a line item, open the estimate, click the cube icon on the line item, and expand Quantity. Choose a linked dimension under Takeoff dimensions, then add your calculation to the linked dimension in the Quantity formula.
