Overview
You can change the profit margin on individual line items within a project directly from the estimate. There are two ways to do this: adjusting the profit percentage right on the sheet view, or opening the item's cube settings to update it in unit pricing. You can also adjust profit at the assembly level or across the entire project.
Before You Begin
- Log in to your Bolster account and open the estimate you want to adjust.
Option 1: Adjust Profit Margin on the Sheet View
- In the estimate's sheet view (spreadsheet), locate the profit margin column for the line item you want to change.
- Double-click the profit margin value for that line item.
- Enter the percentage profit margin you would like for that line item.
This process works the same whether you're adjusting markup on a single item or an entire assembly.
Option 2: Adjust Profit Margin via Item Settings (Cube)
- Click into the cube icon on the line item to open its underlying tools.
- Navigate to Unit Pricing.
- Change the profit margin as needed for this line item.
- Save your estimate changes once you've updated your work.
Adjusting Profit for the Entire Project
- Go to the bottom of the left-hand menu under Project Details.
- Edit the Total Profit % field.
This change applies across the full estimate, not just specific items or assemblies.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Markup Not Saving: Ensure you have the necessary permissions to make changes. Contact your administrator if issues persist.
- Incorrect Calculations: Double-check the entered percentages and ensure they align with your financial goals.
Why This Matters
- Gives you flexibility to set profit margins at the individual item, assembly, or full project level, so your pricing stays accurate to your business goals.
Summary
You can adjust profit margin on a line item directly in the sheet view by double-clicking the profit margin value, or by opening the item's cube icon and updating it in Unit Pricing. You can also set profit for an entire assembly the same way, or adjust the Total Profit % under Project Details to apply a change across the whole estimate
