Overview
You can add a floor plan or drawing to the Takeoff tool and set its scale, so that anything you draw on top of it is measured accurately. You set the scale by drawing over a length you already know on the plan and entering what that length is.
Before You Begin
- You need an estimate with a template added to it. Takeoff works with the templates in your estimate.
Open the Takeoff Drawing Tool
- In the left-hand menu, click Jobs.
- Click Job list and select the estimate. You can also click Pipeline and select it from there.
- In the estimate's left sidebar, click Takeoff.
- In the top right corner, click Draw takeoff.
- If the Draw your takeoff window opens, close it or click Skip.
Add a Floor Plan
- In the toolbar at the top left, click Add layer. The Choose layer type window opens.
- Under Basics, click Upload plans/image. The Select a file window opens.
- Select a plan you have already uploaded to your Bolster Drive, or drag a new file into the window to upload it. The file can be an image or a document, such as a PDF.
The plan is added to the canvas as a new layer, with the label Not Scaled - click to scale now.
Set the Scale
- Click Not Scaled - click to scale now on the plan. A Confirm window explains how scaling works.
- Click Continue.
- Find a spot on the plan that shows a known length (for example, a dimension marked 3'-0"). Zoom in if needed.
- Click once at the start of the length.
- Click a second time at the end of the length. The Scale your file to the canvas window opens.
- Enter the physical length that the line represents (for example, 3) and check that the unit is set correctly (for example, ft).
- Click Accept. A Layer scaled successfully message appears and the plan is scaled based on that measurement.
Why This Matters
- Scaling the plan means anything you draw on top of it is measured at the correct size.
- You only need one known measurement on the plan to scale the whole file.
Summary
To add a floor plan, open Takeoff in your estimate, click Draw takeoff, then click Add layer and choose Upload plans/image. Select or upload your file. To set the scale, click Not Scaled - click to scale now, click Continue, click the start and end of a known length on the plan, enter that length, and click Accept.
